Gen1 RT question -- Gas cap \"cover\"

Anyone who has a 95+ RT (I think) and has that little black "flap" that covers the gas cap and the edge of the quarter when folded... have a question:

How do you get rid of the black crap on the back!!!???! It drives me nuts... I finish filling up, and low and behold... tons of black powder (looks like carbon suit) on the quarter where the flap touched. On a white car.. instantly noticeable.

Any way to fix it? I did a wipe down on the back, but it still does it...

My 94 has the flap on it.
My car is red so maybe it doesnt show up as bad, but I never noticed ANY dust.
Cheers,

Go to a craft store and buy a sheet of foam and cut a new one. I did after the original wore through. Test with gasoline first, but the one got didn't dissolve.... maybe your's isn't original and wrong material?

I have a 95 and have never noticed the dust but I have a process. I always have a few paper towels under the seat for whatever. I always take out one and lay it on the car next to the opening, lay the flap on it, and pour the gas. Once done, I flip over the flap anduse the paper towel to clean up anything in the tank area, clean cap, etc.

MadMaxx...Mine does not exhibit that problem at all. See if you can get a new one like another post referenced.

James, mine doesn't have the black stuff, but I do have a split in the foam flap. I need a new one, but it's not one of my major concerns at the time so it can wait. But I would take it off and try and soak it in warm water with a mild detergent and let it dry well before puting it back on...dunno might work..goodluck.

LADD, where did you buy yours from? And how much? Thanks, Paul.

Bought a new one at my local Dodge dealer for around $6.00. Should fix your problem.
