I am seriously considering buying a viper. It would be strictly 2,000-3,000 mile per year car for weekends etc. My main question is for my type of use should I reach for a generation 11 or 111 car or would a 93-95 suit me fine. Also what is the cost for a set of the chrome 5 spoke wheels, I feel that is more desirable. Any other advice would be much appreciated, from reading this board for awhile I can see there is a lot of knowledge and information availalbe.
Thank You for your assisstance

It depends on what your budget is and what your looking for. Gen 1 cars are great. As a owner of one you would have to live without the power options you would get in a new model. Also whether you want a ragtop or a gts?

Adam hit it on target.

92-95 = "manual" zipper windows, side exhaust, roadster only (RT-10)

96 = plexi slider window, rear exhaust, roadster
96 = introduction of Gen2 (450 HP) motor on coupe chassis (GTS), real power windows on coupe only
97-02 = Gen2 motor in both body styles, power windows on both body styles
03 = SRT-10 convertible only, side exhaust, 500 HP

Any VCA volunteers out there to build a page we can have a link to that describes "all you need to know before purchasing a Viper...but were afraid to ask"?

Thank You Adam and Joe

I am interested in the convertable. I have two cars in mind one is a 94 the other a 98 both low miles 2nd owner cars no modifications there is apx an $8,000 difference in price my guess, is that I would be better off with the 98 it also has a warranty for 3 more years. Any thoughts

The 98 is a much better buy considering the 8k delta in price.

94
No Air Bag
400hp, head gasket may or may not leak
Side curtains

98
Dual Air Bags/passengers side can be turned off
450hp
Glass window electric powered
Electrical reset in the console compartment
Better suspension
The warranty is worth $2,000.00.

In my opinion the 98 is the clear choice.

Agree with Fred!!

Having owned a 94 RT and now a 97 GTS, there is a huge difference in Gen I and Gen II cars. Dollar wise, the Gen II makes more sense. Let me know how I can help.
