What are the normal times for a 94-95 rt to run at the drag strip? What little modification can you do to help it with out spending a ton of money.

Mine, when it was fairly new and limited mods, was around 12.8 and 113. That was with terrible 60 ft times as I was never able to modulate tire spin with XGTZ tires.

1994 RT 10 stock Arrow rebuild, K&N, smooth tubes, no cats but factory mufflers on Pilots at Edmonton Int 2200 ASL. Hot day 80 deg and high humidity that calculated out to a density altitude of 4000 ft ASL.

12.84 at 113.5 mph

Due to the altitude I’m down 30 to 40 hp.

At a lower strip on cooler day I should be good for 12.4 to 12.5.

A set of MT ETs and maybe a very low 12……

My wife ran a 12.57 in our 95 RT that had only smooth tubes and filters. MPH was either 111 or 113 on that run. Her 60 ft was the key - 1.80's after a burnout on the stock Michelins with stock air pressure

My best was 12.82 that day - my 60 ft's were 2.0's

'96 RTs had 415hp didn't they? My '94 ran 12.8s or so initially as well. I remember running in test and tune against drag prepped cars that were like a 1/4 second or so slower than me..they'd get the holeshot with their slicks etc and lead me to half track, then my never tiring 488ci would chase them down and sail right by in the last half of the quarter. Happened more than once.

When I first bought my back in 99' there was a group from socal viper club at Pamona raceway. One guy there had a 94 I believe with minor mods, and he was running 12.2's and 12.3's.

I remember being very impressed with what a Gen 1 could do, not to mention there was a Gen 2 there running 11's bone stock.

It just shows that learning to drive these cars is more important than modifying them.

One thing that I forgot to mention in my note above is the huge drop in lowering the side sill and [******] pit temperatures. That was the best part of dropping the cats.

When my Gen1 had headers and open exhaust, did it run 11.85/120, that was with ET Streets.

The best I got out of my 94 with K&N's, smooth tubes and mufflers was a 12.30 @ 112mph with a 1.75 sixty foot time.
That was on Mxx3's set at 22psi (rears) launching at about 1600 rpm (soft launch), then get into it.
The track was sticky aince the Craftsman Nationals were just a few days before (probably helped alot).
It was sticky enough that I even twisted a half shaft slightly.

I've got it set up on a Friday in August for a group of 15 Gateway VCA Members and a few other people to rent the drag strip at Gateway International Raceway during the day
.
Then I can see what I can get my GTS to do (on and off the bottle). I've got drag radials mounted on spare rims and BTR half shafts, so I'm probably ready as I can get.
All that's left otherwise is another dyno run to make sure the A/F ratio is just right (now that I've got the rpm window switch installed).

What were your 1/8th mile times on those 1/4 mile runs? The last drags I did with my 94 RT was only on a 1/8th mile strip. My best 1/8th mile was 7.9ish. There were guys there saying divide your 1/8th mile time in half and add it to the 1/8th mile time you got to roughly calculate 1/4 mile times. That would put me at around 11.85 on the 1/4. I tend to think that a Viper does better in the last 1/8th then in the first because like someone mentioned above, I generally catch everyone late in the race if I'm behind at the beginning because of a poor launch. So maybe my 1/4 times would be slightly better than the formula suggests.

That was with exhaust mods but not with my Nitrous on. Tire pressure around 20 psi on drag radials. I'm curious what others got for 1/8th mile times though.

It took a little while to find where I'd put my timeslips.

R/T ... .507 (sheer luck) ;)
60' ... 1.759
330 ... 5.117
1/8 ... 7.911
MPH ... 88.41
1000 ... 10.293
1/4 ... 12.306
MPH ... 111.96

So If you ran a 7.9 1/8th mile you probably about a 12.30 in the quarter roughly.

Before my Vec 1 my time's were consistantly 12.2 to 12.3 on Pilot Sports. Now that I have worked out my A/F my best so far has been an 11.88 on my Pilot Sports with just your basic bolt on mods. The key has always been on the 60's my best 60 was on the above run of 1.72 with 7.5 at 93mph in the 1/8th and 11.88 at 121.7. I normally will get between 1.79 and 1.86 60's. Next up is to add some drag radials or ET streets and see how low into the 11's I can get. By the way this is a 94.

11.88 at 121.7, that's awesome. You're definitely building some HP with that kind of MPH. That's Great for a Gen 1 with those basic mods. A good low 60 foot is what will really make for a low ET.
