Tried to remove \"lollipop\" shift knob...need some help

I have the stock lollipop shift knob that matches my Connolly leather, with the shortened shaft. I just got the First Strike knob and can't get the old knob off. I tried using a wrench to hold the shaft while turning the knob...won't budge!! Is it screwed in or is it permanent? I tried till I was blue in the face. Helpful hints guys?

Re: Tried to remove

First, get your terms right. It is a Karaoke microphone. :)

Did you put a wrench around the stop nut and a wrench around the bottom of the shifter and turn them opposite directions. (the wrench on the shifter goes CCW and the wrench on the stop nut gows CW)

Good luck. Hopefully someone didnt put loctite on.

If I understand your question correctly, the chrome shaft is permanently attached to the round shift knob. The shaft and knob is removed by loosening the nuts located under the shift boot. The 1st Strike knob replaces that entire unit.

Oh I see. You are trying to get the KNOB off and not the entire shifter off.

My bad.

Yeah . . . Good luck. I have been trying to get that part off for years.

You said you have the stock knob on a shortened shaft... does that mean that at one point that you were able to get the knob off of the shaft?

Can you post a picture when you completed the swap. I have the cognac interior as well and was wondering what a non-cognac color shifter would look like.

The 2000 gts in my garage has the stock Cognac colored piece of crap on a B&M short shifter as well. The previous owner took it right off in front of my eyes. Who makes an aluminum knob?
