Last owner put new (17's) Pilot Sports on front - my MXX's on rear are dry. Thinking about Kumho V700s but worry about having so much more grip on rear than on front may cause handling problems. Anyone had experience or can comment? Tire Rack didn't like the idea...

Far from ideal but depends on how hard you push the car, the tires will warm to different temperatures giving different amounts of grip. I've always been told to never mix tires.

Guess I'll have to bite for the Pilot Sports, then. Anyone know where they can be had for less than 325 apiece?

For what it is worth, the Kumho's are a great tire. When I need rears on the 96, I will put them on the car without worry of mixing and matching. Regardless of what you have up front the Kumhos will grip/grab better.

Well, you know I could a whole set of V700s for about 10 dollars more than the rear Pilot Sports! I'm just so reluctant to spend that kind of money to get less traction. This car is spinning through second and third, if I get on it. Do you think there'd be any used market for a pair of barely used Pilot Sport 285/40/17s? :)

I mix and match all the time.

If you decide to run Viper Days you can only run Michelins.

I pay $50-$75 for used tires. I'd be interested in barely used 17s.
