my temp guage pegs out when I start my viper and never comes down. when I shut the car off, the guage goes back to zero. I noticed it after doing a burn out. the engine doesn't over heat and the idiot light never comes on. what could have happened, and how should I fix it?

You could have a bare wire touching metal between the gauge and the sending unit. Shorting it makes the gauge read full scale. Or the sending unit failed. I think if the plug fell off the sending unit, it reads low.

thanks

just got done testing the sensor and it is bad, so I will have to get a new one. I unhooked the sensor and started the car and it threw a code and set the check engine light. will this go away after several successful starts or do I need a doe reader to reset it?

Dodge says the code will go away once the problem is corrected but mine never has on my 99 R/T, I had to use the Roe code reader to clear it or you can just pop by any autozone or advance auto parts and they will check and clear it for free for ya.
