Seems like one of those too good to be true things. If not here is an oppurtunity for someone.

    Very likely a SCAM:

    Cruise Control? Nope.
    Bose Stereo? Nope.
    Power Seats? Nope.
    Side Air Bags? Nope.
Cold Air Intake? No such thing for the SRT as far as I know. Pictures shows HALF of a K&N kit (no smooth tube into the intake body itself) with no lid on it. That is a HOT air intake if there ever was one.

My bet is somebody "borrowed" the pictures from a legitimate dealership site and then made up a BS ad to steal some money from somebody. Remember one of the most famous sayings of all: If it is too good to be true, then it probably is!

That is what I figured, but damn it is tempting to check it out. If for nothing else I am sure that you could "flip" it and make a profit on the car. That is if it is legit.

There have been a number of scams offering what seem like fantastics deals on exotic cars on the internet, especially on eBay. They will take deposits from as many people as they can and dissappear. Usually they use a borrowed (without permission) picture and seller account. If it seems too good to be true it usually is. Be very careful! Man-That does look tempting though !

Well I emailed the guy. We will see if he responds. I swear if it is legit I will get a loan ASAP and get that puppy.

426, calm down. It is because people become excited at the thought of flipping a car to make some money that these scams work. Get your greed under control and save yourself from being ripped off.

There are no circumstances under which this sort of deal can be legit. Think about it...how could it ever make sense for an SRT to really be for sale @ 35k? Even if it was a repaired salvage, that is a too good to be true price.

Well my (and everyones) suspecion seems to be right. No response to the email. Phoenix, I hear ya, thing is that I don't know if I could have forced myself to sell it after I got it. Even my wife didn't think that we would sell it. Never got the hopes up but there always is that little thought planted way back in the grey matter....

Udate: The guy did email me back. He stated that the price is correct, no damage whatsoever, guarenteed clean title and provided the VIN. I did a quick check on Carfax for the VIN and it is an SRT-10 VIN. Which only means that he was smart enough to get a real VIN.

    VIN: 1B3JZ65Z34V100463
    Year/Make/Model: 2004 DODGE VIPER SRT-10
    Body Style: Convertible
Engine Type: 8.3L V10 SFI ALM
    Manufactured In: UNITED STATES
Search Results: 5 records found in our database

Just wondering about the 5 records for a car that is essentially brand new. Is this out of the norm? I know that 2 records are probably for the initial titleing and such. If anyone has a carfax account and wouldn't mind checking I would appreciate it. I am awaiting a reply as to where the car is located and such. We'll see I guess.

426, if you are checking into this just to see how good a story the scammer is telling, then keep us posted.

On the other hand, if you are still thinking that you may be able to get an SRT for the give-away price of $35k, why don't you just flush the money down the toilet now and save yourself the anxiety of sending the money off somewhere and then waiting a few days or week or so before being the last person on earth to know that you were scammed?

It's a scam...don't get sucked into the green mist.

Well I would have to say that my purpose is more of the former than the latter. Call it morbid curiosity. At the very least, the Viper community will benefit from the uncovering of yet another scam artist.

I in no way am thinking that I can get a 2004 SRT-10 for $35k, hell I would find it a good deal to find a 1995 RT/10 for that amount. I am not totally dillusional.

I wouldn't trust it either. Sounds to good to be true and not all details are present.

Good to hear it. Your buds here on the board were concerned for a while.

The way that this scam is usually done on E-Bay is that you see a super-low price on a cool car (often with a pre-approved buyer clause). And then the guy's bidding history is good.
You send him an e-mail and he says that it's the real deal and that the car is located someplace far away from you.
Sometimes it's across the country, but usually "out of the country".

If he wants you to wire him money to "lock in the deal", then you know it's a scam, if it's outside of the country it's certainly a scam, and if it's anywhere in Africa then it guaranteed to be a scam.

I've followed up a couple of these over the past few years, mostly as a point of curiosity. And they have all been clearly scams, uncovered after a few pointed questions.

If they have the car located in Phoenix, Arizona or Copenhagen, Denmark, respond back that you have a military buddy stationed nearby there and he will gladly drop in and check out the car for you. Then watch them squirm and backpeddle.

These kinds of scams are getting nearly as common as spam.

    -Dean.

Yea the scams are really getting out of control. He said that the car is in Il. So if anyone in that area is interrested I can get further details about the location.

A local guy was just on the news about a 68 Camaro convertible for a super low price. The guy (seller) seemed legit, so he wired $300 for a deposit (low to normal) Then he flew to the airport where the guy was supposed to meet him. He was greeted by about 5 other people who also wired money for the phantom cars....The scammer probably made enough to afford a real SRT-10. Almost everything in America is of questionable reality value lately.
