Service manual says 7.5 quarts with the filter. Is this enough, or do I have to buy more oil?
Thanks

Hi Ian,
August 1996 DC sent a correction sheet for the 96 GTS service manual,
page 0-2, to correct the type-O "7.5 qts" to 8.5 qts.
You need one more quart! :headbang:

Don't just throw 8.5 in there too. Put in just under 8 and start checking. You might get up to 8.5 but don't find out something weird and end up having to drain some out.

That is odd, why does my manual say the capacity is 9.5 with the filter? I change my oil 2 times a year and 9.5 puts it right where it should be.

Chuck:

Does that apply to only the 96's?? My 98 GTS says the same thing! (At least I think it does!)

From memory, it's something like this....

1992 ~ 1996 GENI were 10 qts.
1996 ~ 1999 GENII were 8.5 qts.
2000 ~ 2002 GENII were 10 qts.

2000+ GENII oil pan fits all GENII engines. A common upgrade for any autocross / Viper Day student as the added capacity minimizes G force dry pickups.

Slaughterj - you have a small error in your sheet. A multi-year service manual check confirms my numbers above including that the 10qt pan started in 2000 not 2001.

pdmracing - My guess would be the change was the result of several engines grenading at Viper Days events because of oil starvation.
