According to Car and Driver (July of 95) a stock Gen I car can do the 1/4 mile in 12.8@109. Is this about right in the Real world? Anyone with any experience?

When I first bought my 95 3 yrs ago, it had 3K miles on it and stock including air filters and the very dried out hard original Mich tires. I wanted to get a base line on times before I went for mods. I dont recall all the trap speeds but the times I ran were as follows (first time out on track with car)
13.2, 12.9, 12.8, 12.6 and best time of 12.3. I got prgressively better then topped out at 12.3 and ran several in the 12.5 - 12.7 range. Havn't been back to track but look forward to run in Spring with new mods. I beleive with the new tires and just the air filters I added could have done beter (bad wheel hop). Now going to new rockers, headers, exhaust mods.....

Best time for me--12.4, bellangers, no cats and smooth tubes. Using 3:55 gears, stock worn pilots (excuses excuses.) Spun the tires through second and crossed the line in forth at almost redline. Speed was 117 mph. The 3:07's probably would be best if there was less wheelspin. Of course, that would take a better driver than me. John

I only got to run two passes so far, slip is in front of me. Stock 95, no cats, chrome tubes, K/N.
1.994 60ft., 12.662 et, 112.19 mph
1.983 60ft., 12.622 et, 112.87 mph

I will get into low 12's with more experience, I spun all over the place at launch and wheel hopped like crazy in 2nd.

With my old 96, I got a best of 12.5 at 112. After headers, 3" exhaust, tubes&filters, and 3.73's I got a best of 11.8 at 118. :2tu: :2tu:

That's accurate on stock tires with an avg driver. Drag radials will drop about another .4 sec.

My best was 12.12@116 with 1994 RT/10

Saw 2 bone stock ones run 12.2-12.3's all day long several years ago in pamona. Magazine drivers need an automatic tranny and every known driving aid to man to make good passes.

I had a telephone conversation with a guy in CA about 6 years ago who was running a Gen 1 in some 'stock' Viper class. He was telling about all the cheating he was doing like anti-reversion inserts behind the machined throttle bodies, gutted cats, a different gear, headwork, etc..
Looked OEM from the outside of course.

Their MPH were not showing any kind of mods. Both running 114-116, about right for a gen 1. And their cars looked stock down to the manifolds.

I run 12.0 on my 95 with smooth tubes and Bellanger cat-back on Pilot tires.

Steve

You're such a liar, you've got a 94. Only SRT's can get 12 flat or less if they are stock

I hope you are kidding. You know I am the "pilot" don't you?

Honestly, that is what I ran. I got the time slip to prove it.

It also depends on where you are at. Here in vegas you can add .3 to your times because of the altitude.
