Hi guys!
When you make a turn like a hairpin bend I was wondering if shifting in 1st gear to get more punch is bad for the tranny or if it's better too stay in 2nd?
I tried on mine, it works but I don't know if the tranny really likes it or not.

For me, it depends on the RPM that is carried at a given time...if the curve is such that the RPM carried is in the strong area of the lower end of the torque range for a given car, I choose the taller gear. I have found that when I try for the lower gear, I'm usually disappointed init's usefulness with it's relatively short duration of safe utilization.

For our 96 RT/10, anything above 1800 in 2nd gear is fine for the above situation. I tend to keep a Viper's RPM on the low end by short shifting, as it works well with this engine type (took a little while for me to adapt to this concept coming out of Porsches/Ferrari's).

Just be careful down shifting to first and nailing the gas. Many a snake has bitten their owners doing that in a turn.
