Default Wondering? Why can\'t you tow with SRT Ram reg cab?

What exactly is the weak link that prevents it from towing? is it the transmission, gearing?
    Thanks

    Who says you can't?

Honestly, the weakest link is DC - they'll void your
warranty in a heartbeat if they find a hitch on the back.
Everything else on the truck is standard 1/2 ton equipment,
but being as high strung as it is though I wouldn't use it
    as a regular tow vehicle.

The weak link is the clutch.

I recall Bill P telling me it was because of the 6 speed manual trans. If you notice the quad cab automatic is tow rated and I recently saw a new one on a dealer lot with a receiver from the factory. Bill

I've heard the same. I know Macedo towed a viper over 1000 miles with his quad cab SRT and he said it pulled great.

I believe it's the clutch. When you S/C the regular cab, you must also upgrade the clutch to handle the torque. Similarly, the clutch can't handle towing demands.I believe it was Bill P. that told me that, as well.

The quad cab auto tranny skips the argument altogether!

I've wondered this before as well. So all you have to do is upgrade the clutch and a regular cab can be used to tow?

You can do anything with it if you you want to. Problem is DC will void the warranty and will not fix it when it breaks down. This vehicle is not made for towing - period!!! If you plan to tow, buy the Quad Cab.

My Quad Cab SRT-10 is an unbelievable tower. The truck could care less about my ski boat, especially when you apply the brakes. It rocks.

So could an upgraded clutch make it a capable tow vehicle?
My guess is it probably would need a trans fluid cooler, oil cooler, pwr steering cooler?

It has to do with a myriad of factors:

    1. Viper transmission in said truck, never designed for towing what most folks would tow and it is already hauling around a ton more weight.
    2. Truck suspension, tires ,etc. were not designed for towing , but for performance, so they are not rated for much tongue weight and load capacity.
    3. DOT requirments --- relating to the above , put many things in limbo.

I do know guys who have towed jet-skis , personal watercraft, and even bikes, but they are all very lightweight, with little tongue weight, and obviously there is no lack or power.

Tire rating is the other issue.
