Transmission Problem??

I was reading my 3 series manual and it says, "do not let your car roll without the car in gear." Anyone know why this is? I always thought that you take the car out of gear when you are rolling instead of coasting in gear and then taking it out as you slow down. BMW says this can lead to transmission damage?

synchro mesh? perhaps some people are not careful and this could cause damage.

I cruise in Neutral quite a bit when I am coming up to lights...never had a problem. 55k on my car now.

Same here, only with 67k miles (16k since I bought the car)
