600 is not going to be enough to hold up to the Vette. Why not just bring enough Horsepower to the table that everyone just gives up and no longer even tries to compete.

Unless the Vette is coming out with a power increase I disagree with you Steve.

For one, the Vette needs a brake upgrade to hang with the Viper on a track, and as for the dragstrip 600 hp + grippier PS2 rubber should pretty well set the Vette back a car length or two.

And I think there is more to come.

What about the "blue Devil" or what ever they are calling it this week?

If you read carefully you will note the new Viper engine has gone back to forged pistons and other internal modifications that allow it to accept a blower, no sweat! Let the Blue Devil come out with their blower, etc. -- the next move from Dodge is already set up. Way to go, fellas! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I think we're seeing the peak of HP for a long, long
while to come. 600hp is like handing M80s to kindergardeners
in terms of the posuer owner. While most of us have had
time to prepare for the vipers ... unique handling moods,
I can't imagine handing these keys to a newbie on a rainy
day.

My question though - if they computerized the throttle bodies
and valve train, what other gadgets have they installed?

The Corvette guys on their forum are really talking about this and they are running scared of the performance possibilities but they also have a good point, same cheap interior and same old body style however the hood change is awesome. Coupe only please. Woodhouse, we may have a deal going!!

Love the motor, love the hood but still not in love with the rest.

Would this be considered a GEN 3.5 or Gen 4?

Interesting, I was going to chop on the hood looking like one of those desperate Firebirds that came out a while ago, but it looks better from the side than from the top/front. From the side, you can't tell any difference from the Gen 3.

I think the wheels look great.

Bonkers, you said it. The HP can't keep climbing. Nobody can handle the cars on the road now, let alone 4-5-6 HP. And yes, the kids now-a-days have the $$ to go for the more expensive power-cars, not to mention the 30-40-50 year olds who have had the $$ and can't drive to save thier lives. I hope we won't see lots of crash videos in late 2007-8.

Still great though. I don't think anyone ever thought this would happen once the 60's muscle cars were history. The late 70's - 80's was a sad time for power.

I would imagine this would be a gen 3.5. One sad design queue that really is a downer for me is the 3 gill hood exhaust vents. It would have been five if they remembered the Viper was a work of art and not just an engineering design (but then again, its purpose is suppose to be simple, so not sure how far I would really call it an engineering marvel). Please put five gills on the hood!

I think 3 big openings instead of 5 small openings are a bolder design statement. Plus it's a lot easier to get your fingers in there to clean. :headbang:

Hey back off ! I'm 56 and know how to drive. After 30 + years of raising and educating my kids I was able to afford performance cars again. I haven't wrecked one yet. I like the new Viper and will have one. Show a little respect for those of us older than you. I show it to you and every one else on this forum.

I don't think he was saying that if you're a 30/40/50 year old you can't drive, I think he was saying that there are folks in that age category that will have the money to buy a 600 HP Viper that don't have the skills to handle it, let alone the power of the current Gen-2/3. If that doesn't apply to you, it doesn't apply. If it does, go to ViperDays! I know I'm going in July, just because while I consider myself a fair driver in this car, I don't really trust myself like I should and I want the confidence builder of a good driving school IN THIS CAR under my belt.

As for the '08 Viper, I'm just not sure....some angles really catch my eye, and some just scream "3rd gen with aftermarket hood". The power sure is enticing though.

In 100,000+ Viper street miles I haven't wrapped my Viper yet. But I guess I still don't know how to handle it.

Ok, I missed that first sentence, you're right. As for you...you're just an anomaly. ;)

Give me an easily modifiable 500hp car. The 500hp will keep
the showroom queens happy and the posuers alive. It'll also
keep insurance and ambulance-chasing lawyers away from DCX.
The wannabes get a car they are happy with and the enthusiasts
have a platform to build 800hp rolling nightmares.

Win-win situation.

Getting into an HP ******* match only sells cars to C&D readers.
And reading C&D probably means they're not to bright in the first
place. What's the loss?

"Anomaly?" That word is suspiciously close to "abnormally."

Boy it wont be long til the after market people start with their after market junk on the 08, like intake, exhaust, gas caps, etc. I learned the hard way just to stay stock. This is why the factory does not put this crap on.
