Dear VCA Member,

On behalf of the Viper Club of America, South Florida Region, I would like to invite each and every one of you, to the 1st Annual “South Florida Speed Weekend Winter Getaway standing mile run and track day at Homestead where it’s you against yourself - and the rest of the Viper Nation.

Our event will consist of 2 beautiful days in sunny South Florida, on 2 very special tracks. Well, actually 1 very special track, Homestead Motorsports Speedway and 1 unique Air Strip*. You now have a reason to drive, trailer or ship your Viper, and enjoy a unique venue not many other places can host.

If you have the Need for Speed, we have your fix. Come and run with the big dogs. Forget child’s play at an eighth of a mile. The quartermile drag at your local strip? Sure it’s “the standard” but it still can’t compare to the standing mile. When you’re going faster than double the legal speed limit, you’ll soon realize that there’s another dimension. If you’ve never done anything like this before, all I can say is that there are no words to describe this feeling. This is your time. This is the moment. This is your weekend.

Saturday February 20, 2010 – Check in
Check in. You will be attending a dinner with a special guest of honor. No late night partying as you’ll need to rest up for the next 2 days of driving. For those wishing to come in earlier, I will have a list of places to see and great eats. Many hotels and Casinos close by too.

Sunday, February 21, 2010 – Viper Top Gun Run
The concept is elementary. To master it, well not so easy. Welcome to the Viper Top Gun Run, where you have only 1 mile to drive your Viper as fast as you can before slowing down. Get the fastest MPH in this standing mile in your class and take home the trophy King of Viper Top Gun Run. And all the bragging rights that go with it.

This is a test of Man vs. Machine. Your Viper has power, but can you handle it? Do you have what it takes to achieve the fastest time in your class to gain the coveted “King of the Viper Top Gun Run” title? It’s a lonely feeling to be at the top; it’s even lonelier when everything is going by all blurry. This is not for the fainthearted. It’s for the real speed demon inside of you. When you see your speedometer needle traveling in unfamiliar territory, it’s a surreal moment.

Here’s how it’s done:

You line up and wait for the signal to go. Once you begin accelerating, you’ll have the total distance of 1 mile to achieve the fastest MPH in the lowest time possible. That’s it. The time and speed recording equipment is from TAG Heuer. The surface is smooth as glass asphalt; remember, this is still an active airport.

If time permits in the afternoon, we will allow you to have a “running start” and build up your momentum to about 40-50mph as you enter the beginning of the air strip, and shoot for your top speed that way to see how fast your Viper could actually run. You will have approximately 1.5 miles to achieve this before needing to slow down within half mile. There will be ONE trophy for the car who achieves the fastest MPH.

*Welcome to the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport. An airport that started life as the Everglades Jetport, construction began in the late 60’s; it was supposed to be the largest airport in the world, and future home of all supersonic jets coming into Miami. After the 1st runway was constructed, environmentalists decided that preserving the Everglades was more important than completing the airport. Hence, this lonely air strip is now only used for training and special military ops. The air strip measures just about 2 miles long x 150’ wide.

Monday, February 22, 2010 – Homestead Motorsports Speedway
There’s a reason why NASCAR chose Homestead Motorsports Speedway to host their final race of the season. Now it’s your turn to experience it first hand. I have arranged a special track day at Homestead Motorsports Speedway, a World Class facility that beckons to be driven. If you’re new at this or a veteran that want to pick up some new tips, there will be instructors to show you the lines and get you up to speed. If you’re an experienced track driver, we’ll let you use banks 3 & 4 coming out of the road course. You’ll know what it feels like to have the pedal to the metal, while using the bank to build up velocity. Don’t let the NASCAR drivers have all the fun. This is your time, this is your opportunity.

To Register is very easy. Please send me an email telling me you’re interested and I will forward you all the pertinent information for both the Standing Mile Run and the Track Day at Homestead. Traveling all the way down from wherever you’re from, I highly recommend doing both driving events. You will absolutely love Homestead, and you will have all the track time you ever wanted.

If you have any further questions regarding this event or other issues or concerns, please email me direct at [email protected] . I look forward to seeing you here in sunny South Florida, and for you to have the time of your life.

Our Standing Mile Event has been postponed to March 13 and 14, 2010. There was a slight problem getting the venue running at Homestead to assist me in getting the VCA down there, without getting everyone registered at one time.

We will be running PBIR, (Palm Beach International Raceway) on Saturday March 13, and the Standing Mile on Sunday, March 14, 2010.

I truly apologize for the updated event dates, but there was no other way around this.

For those of you who wish to just run the Standing Mile event, that is not a problem. They are in the process of updating the site, TOP GUN RUN so you may register directly there.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Price and details will be made available on another thread.

Thank you and I look forward to see you all then.
