Hi there,

I've got my 92 Viper coming in in a couple of weeks from now. People keep talking about the oil problem of the early 92's. The car has 48 thousend miles on it. I assume when it has this problem, it would have made some trouble by now. I read about the cars with the problem, they had trouble almost right away from new!

Now is my question, what is normal, how much oil do your cars use? When I know this a bit, than I know if my car is normal or not and I can keep my eye on it.
I can't imagine, even on the new ones, that these type of cars don't use any oil at all!

Greetings Roy

As far as I know it was a problem with the gaskets, not burning too much oil...
Should be fixed long ago with that many miles on the car.

Gen 1's sometimes burned a quart of oil every 2-3k miles...but with 10 quarts of oil...not too bad ;) depended on how folks drove them. I burn about a half a quart every 3k miles with basic driving.

I receives an email from Chuck Tator, he told me that normal oil consumption for all Vipers is around 1 quart every 1000 miles!
