Race the Base event took place at Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada last weekend. 82 of the world's fastest and most expensive cars attended at a cost of $1500 each. VIPs $500. All profits are going to Charities such as ****** Cancer and "Veterans Survivors".

First Voodoo ACR I've seen was at the event. Guy from Victoria received his Voodoo 2 weeks ago and trailered it to this event. His time at the 1.8 mile was 270kph. A Venom Red/silver SRT10 turned in a time of 294kph.

Fastest car was the ZR Auto World's Fastest Ferrari (Enzo) at 368kph. This car also won the race against the F-18. ZR Auto also ran another Ferrari that turned a 330kph speed.

Louie Gierstorfers's 2003 Paxton SRT10 (665rwhp) got to 307kph and Darryl Weflen's Salt Flats GTS managed a 316kph (n/a engine) for his first time taking the car out.

There was at least 50 Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis. There were 5 vipers, 5 vettes, a Stryker, an SLS, an SLR, a couple Jags, a Hemi 70 GTX that turned 279kph, a TT vette that ran a 336kph (Davenportmotorsports), 4 GTRs, a Maserati MC-12 with a 'babe' driving it.

A Candy Red Saleen S7 ran badly and then came back the return road trailing blue smoke, lots of blue smoke. A newer Shebly 500 Mustang made a couple passes and came back with zero oil pressure. Those were the only problems I heard of.

The Canadian Armed Forces had automatic rifles for the public to test out, a tank, an armoured personel carrier, couple of bomb robots, missiles, planes, and they set up the military tents for the VIP dining etc. They maintained a heavy security presence and supplied a Rescue chopper to hang around.

I attended on a Press Pass and got some video and a few hundred pics. This event went over so well that yesterday Zahir informed me that this event will happen again next year. Anyone of the 1600+ rwhp TT Vipers care to take a try at the World's Fastest Ferrari?

I understand that a Nitrous'd modified 900rwhp Ford GT did 348kph. There was 4 FGTs there.

I've posted many pics at my website Ted Hlokoff - Fine Art - Fine Art America - FineArtAmerica

Thanks for the pics. I would be interested in doing this event next year. Is it a day event or a weekend deal?

Thanks MB

It started Friday 1pm. with driver's meeting and driving instructors. One of the Instructors (Roland) went straight to Darryl's GTS and said he was a driver for Oreca "back in the day". Friday night was a car show in Cold Lake.

Saturday was timed runs and the jet races. Auctioned off passenger seats, runs down the runway and police escorted parade to Bonnyville, another car show and the Galla Dinner at C2 Sat evening. Any rain dates would have been done Sunday but we only had sprinkles so we got everything done on Sat and I left (1,000mile trip home). Sunday morning a pancake breakfast was presented at the Base.

Is this a yearly event Ted?

First ever of this event in Canada. It went so well that next year is being planned!

They raised a lot fo money and both the local towns charities and the local economy was vastly helped so ... it will hopefully become a yearly event. It may also be adopted in other areas of Canada, hopefully.

what did your car do Ted???

I couldn't register my car. I was under evacuation order at my business and 'alert' at my house when I found out about this event. I phoned and asked how long I had to find out if I would be able to go. "Till midnight'" he said. Too much risk for putting up the required $2,000.

Hearing that the World's Fastest Ferrari was 860rwhp I wondered how close my 802rwhp ACR could get to him. With the Nitrour turned on it make huge torque (dyno sheet looks like a roe blower) and I figure that would make a huge difference in a 1.8 mile run with a Viper 5th gear and a Paxton.

I also wondered if my 720+rwhp Roe car would outpull the ACR.

I went on a Press Pass instead. My GTS was in the parking lot outside beside another Viper and a Maserati Quatro(?). I was in the car shows, but no chance to run.

Louie Gierstorfer's Paxton 665rwhp attained a 307kph speed.

Next year ...

This event is only about 5 hrs from where I grew up in Canada. If people knew how remote this really is, they would have a greater appreciation. It's lke flying the top cars in the world into Siberia. Of course I exagerate to clarify. Ha! Ha!

Nothing even remotely like this when I grew up there. We had to set those records on the secondary highways of Saskatchewan. Nothing like a 50 mile straight away. :)

Cold Lake is only about 3 hours north of Edmonton and about 5.5 hours north of Calgary. 17 hour driving time from my house! Mind boggling rainstorms all the way to Edmonton and rained 85% of the way home. Global warming?

Darryl said the runway is so smooth he could get 150mph+ in his go-kart on that surface. Way smoother than the Salt flats.

Colo-viper this is the first ever event of this type in Canada. Glad it's being repeated next year. Seems that I'll be helping out next year.

Cool pics and event Ted, thanks for sharing.

One thing I'm surprised not to see on the Vipers setup for a top speed run is blocking off the fascia grille opening, blocking half of the opening would be better for aero and it would also reduce front end lift at high speed, don't need all of the openings for cooling on a high speed run.

Cheers,
Mike

Good point Mike. I didn't ask Louie, but Darryl said that his car was really cool so he may have benefited from taping the top openings. His car was set for 5 mile top speed runs he thinks. I'll mention it to him. It's always better the second time around.

I expect that nearly all the vipers will got much faster next year.

Steve Eisenberg found out during his "passenger" paying run (demo) that his TT vette is MUCH faster when shifting around 5,000rpms as compared to waiting for the red line.

I'm hoping to see TT Vipers there next year. I believe the highest rwhp figures I was told was 900.

I wondered if the vette guys parked themselves there or some Ferrari people 'helped' them out? I couldn't resist taking the pic but, of course. I'M too classy to mention it, :)

Here's a pretty good video on your tube. The Black Ford GT had one of the fastest times there.

There are a lot of videos up already. YouTube - race the base, cold lake

My videos kinda ****. Too windy and I used too long a lens causing shake.
I spent hours alongside the runway capturing 150mph pics and video of the cars going by.

Here's an onboard camera on a Haybusa. He did manage 3kph faster than Louie's 307kph run in his 665rwhp Paxton 2003 SRT10.

I hope Insanity isn't contagious? Ahhh damn, it's too late for me, I already went 295kph on my ZX11 years ago ... uphill.

That Black FGT I was told makes 900rwhp on Nitrous Oxide. Ran one of the fastest times of the event.
