I keep my cars on tenders but sometimes take them out of town where they might sit a few days. The manual (which for the 2010 I had to order!) has directions for putting the car in sleep mode therby extending the (lousy) battery life.

Has anyone done this and if so does it work? Thanks

I had asked this question before and some people use it but a vast majority seem to just put the car on a tender. Thats what I do with my Gen. IV

I use it all of the time, and it works well too.

I had an '06 coupe and now an '08 coupe. Just my toy which doesn't get driven very much, and the garage I keep it in has no electric. The 'sleep' mode definitely helps extend the charge. My cars have sat for 2+ months at a time without being touched, and they have always started.

Yes, I use it all the time. Turn car off, turn key back and forth to "accessory position" 4 times. push up on door lock button. Car horn will chirp once.

if your battery is dead after a few days, and you don't have an old battery, then you have another problem. My battery lasts all winter with car in storage without a tender. (in sleep mode)

Same,I use the hibernation mode on my 2008 during the winter and it has always started first try when I go to restart after a few months.

Does it work for Gen 3 as well? I tried this technique this morning on my 03, and nuttin' happened. No chirp.

I have an '05. Try again. Just turn key from off to accessory (toward you) 4x. don't turn to on position. From the repair manual:

BATTERY SAVE MODE
NORMAL OPERATING MODE The battery save mode is
enabled by performing the following:
(1) Insert the key into the ignition cylinder.
(2) Cycle the ignition key from OFF to ACC four
times without going to the RUN position.
(3) Leave the switch in the OFF position after the
fourth cycle. This puts the BCM into the LEARN
mode.
(4) Using the drivers door lock switch, UNLOCK
the power locks. A single chime and a horn chirp will
tell the customer that the battery save mode is being
enabled.
² VTSS may be armed before the BCM Sleep
Mode starts by using the RKE or the door lock
switch.
² All interior and exterior lights will be turned off.
² Accessory delay will be cancelled.
² Cycling the ignition to RUN will cancel the feature.
NOTE: The customer can enter and exit
the vehicle by pressing the exterior door handle,
this will wake up the BCM. If the vehicle
was locked, then the customer must use the
RKE Unlock and then press the exterior handle
again. If the ignition is NOT cycled to RUN,
then the BCM will re-enable this feature.

I use it all the time. In fact, I use it instead of the tender. I have let the car sit as long as three months and it started up just fine.

I use it also with a battery tender. I have a 7 year old battery and still works. I might want to replace it next year maybe.:).
