    Default Value of a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6

Turbo 400 3-speed tranny, posi etc. Is anyone familiar with these muscle cars as I am looking at one that is ground up restoration (nut & bolt), build sheets and numbers match.

    thankyou

The '70 LS6 is probably one of the Top 5 most coveted muscle cars ever made.
450HP was stock coming from the big block 454, making it the quickest American-made 2+2 until the GNX in '87 (IIRC). It's a true 1/4 mile monster, and has the rep to back that up.

Many have taken Malibu and lesser (straight-6) model versions and turned them into really nice pro-touring machines.

OEM parts are EASILY found, and cheap too. Modifications are almost limitless.

Post pics if you score it!

My first car in 1976 was a Red/White Stripes Black interior 1970 SS396 350hp 4speed. 1970 is obviously the most desirable year but they made tons of them. I've had at least 2 dozen classic and muscle cars since but that's the car people always bring up in conversation. I was actually looking for another one when I decided to buy my GTS. The automatic will hurt the value on that car considerably but the LS6 is second only to the LS7 in Chevelles or certain Yenkos and Copos...

A fresh restore that preserves all of the original flaws and overspray and marking in a desirable color with stripes and functional cowl induction could go six figures in a good market but $80k for a prime example is fair nowadays...

Other factors like vinyl top or convertible make a difference too.

    More details would help...

I will say that those cars have a presence on the road almost equal to that of a Viper...

it's worth what someone is willing to pay/bet for at Barrett-Jackson. . My friend paid 23K for a fully restored most coveted model [ meaning 4 spd] red with black stripes just before this BJ craiziness started . He sold the car for 40K [ nice investment for a short period] and couple years later the same car [ could have been his ] sold for around 180K at BJ . prices came down again ,so it will be interesting to see what these cars bring at the upcoming BJ auction?

Way too many variables to say for sure what the value is. I suggest starting here and I can also put you in touch with a local expert.

Didn't the true LS6 Chevelle SS only come with the M22 transmission. Don't pay LS6 money for a clone (obviously)

My father owns a '70 Chevelle 454 LS6, recently traded his '67 427 vette for it.

IIRC, for MY 1970, the Muncie M-22 "Rocker Crusher" 4-speed was standard and the TH400 automatic was an option.

Since this thread started, I've looked around a little. There are a few original LS-6's available, but they want a kidney and an eye for them.
On the flip side, there are some VERY, VERY, VERY nice clones available. Serious builds with all new parts. Some even have a warranty!

    A well-setup pro-touring LS-6 clone would be a helluva daily driver.

I own the little brother version, 1970 LS-5 454 SS Chevelle. It doesn't have the original block in it, so it is only worth about $35K in its very nice condition. Real LS-6 cars with the original engines are usually in the $75K+ range, depending on options and color. The cranberry red cars seem to get the most interest. Green cars not so much. Pricing will vary quite a bit, but right now is the time to buy them. Values will go up again, they fell the last 2 years. Here is my car:
