I am selling my 97 GTS on Craig's List and was concerned about giving out the VIN number to someone who has e-mailed me. Is there any risk in giving out the number? Have there been cases where someone has rebuilt a wreck using a stolen VIN?

In some states, you can take a VIN and pay the DMV some money to get the title history. Assuming you're comfortable with someone doing that, I don't see any harm in listing the VIN. Or blank out the last digit if that puts your mind at ease.

+1, Its exposed for everyone to see...

The VIN# is necessary to partly check the history of a vehicle wether it be through the DMV or running a CarFax report.

Autotrader and Cars.com Both list the VIN numbers for vehicles so that potential buyers can research.
Both of these sites will get you more exposure and serious buyers than craigslist.

You've been on the VCA forums for a while now, Why the sale?

I am going to be downsizing to a smaller house and will not likely have the garage space for the Viper. You are right, I have been on this site since 1997, when I bought the car.
