Viper tranny looks a little big for that thing, but if you could get the weight centered on it, you'll probably do alright with that. An actual transmission jack would be preferable though.

I bought a transmission jack from Harbor Freight years ago that I used to remove/reinstall the transmission in my old Camaro (it was a T-56)...worked great, and was surprisingly heavy for a Chinese made tool.

Looks like it is on sale right now at HF for $80...might be worth looking into, especially if you aren't going to be using it all the time.

Buy it, try it, take it back if it doesn't work. But be sure to post whether it worked or not.

BTW, Most Harbor Freight jacks are very well built. You have 90 days to return their stuff. I just bought their ultra low profile jack for $130. It has a 2.6" height deck with a 2 foot neck. It can clear any low profile car and grab almost any part of the frame. All Viper owners should have this, it eliminates the need for ramps:

The tranny jack is here:

Keith, how about a sketch?

Crude, simple, but very effective. I was able to R&R the tranny on my own using this setup. Tranny sits on it perfectly balanced. Front goes under the last spine segment and then lag screw through the top of the tranny mount holes into the 2x4's. It's bolted to the jack pad with enough play to allow some fore/aft movement.

Thinking of trying this, but curious if anyone has an experience with it? Is it a decent product for the occasional transmission swap? [h=1]WILMAR Performance Tool W41044 Floor Jack Transmission Adapter[/h]http://www.sears.com/wilmar-perform...47S5842803209P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Looks like the exact same top I have on my full size trans jack. I hate the damn thing, but it always gets the job done. I haven't done a Viper with it yet, but it's seen many a T56 as well as the zf6 out of my f350 dually etc. I wouldn't hesitate if it's cheap.
