Hi guys. Just recently sold my 6MT CTS-V. I want to get a Viper and become a part of a family. I found 2 choices 2004 SRT10 with 9000 miles and 2nd 2008 SRT10
with 50.000miles both go for about the same price. Basically comes down to extra 100hp vs low miles. Anybody can tell me how reliability on 2008 and if 50k miles
is scary or not? Both car faxes looks ok. Need a help from your guys to decide witch one to get? Any Suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

The miles don't scare me but you will have buyers asking the same question when you go to sell with even more miles. These cars are tough. It all depends on how you will use the car.

I had an 03 and 09. The 09 was a far better car, and sold it with 50,000 miles. It held up well over those miles.

For my money, I would go with the 08. It has a stronger motor, stronger transmission, much better rear end and all around it was better built.

Biggest change I made was upgrading to the MCS shocks. With 50k miles on the 08 it will be due for shocks.

Yep, I have an 03 and wished I would have found a Gen 4. Oh well, I cannot *****....I have mine fixed up and running as the perfect daily driver. I would say go for the 2009.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with either choice. Some of it depends on what you're looking for though. Low miles on a car that old is almost scarier than high miles to me because no car likes sitting around. I'm at nearly 100,000 on my 04 and it still runs great. Bought it with 40,000 on it and have had it about 3 1/2 years. It's just a bit rough around the edges if you look closely, but a good detailing and most people can't tell the miles. They're built like a tank, so they don't really wear out mechanical stuff very easily.

I have owned both. The GenIV is a big step forward. The miles don't bother me either. Mine has 36K miles and is still on the factory clutch. And I do not baby my car.

This will answer it best:

Planning to stay stock? Buy the Gen-4.

Planning to have Mod Fever? Buy the Gen-3.

For ~20K, you can turn a Gen-3 into a 725HP Gen-4 look-alike that also has a Gen-4 transmission and rear end. Best of all worlds- more power, no mod hassles, sounds better, and same drivetrain as Gen-4.

Doesn't the gen 4 have easier modding now with the computer work that has been done? I'd agree a gen 3 is easier, but I was thinking a gen 4 wasn't near as bad as it used to be.

Not so much. Fewer camshaft & control options, still a pain when it comes to Drive By Wire on a VENOM controller, etc. Definitely a lot better than it was, but still not quite as easy.
